MAJERUS ON HELPSIDE KEYS

Keys by Coach Rick Majerus on the guidelines of a helpside defender:

HELP STANCE
#1 No one cuts below you
#2 Jump to the ball in a stance with vision and talk
#3 One step off the line of the ball, if anything be closer to the ball
#4 Must always turn head and point (see & point your man and the ball)
#5 Active feed (economy of motion)

HELP ON BASELINE DRIVE
#1 Attack to below the block
#2 Attack outside the lane
#3 be physical and take the hit (high hands)
#4 If teammate recovers or is not beat, then recover to your man
#5 Blockout on the Shot

HELPSIDE FLASH
#1 No one cuts below you
#2 Move on a diagonal to the cutter
#3 Meet at or outside the lane
#4 Maintain ear in the chest
#5 Though you -- stand him up!
#6 Deny to the top and force backdoor -- butt to the ball

HELPSIDE BLOCKOUT
#1 Got outside the lane -- make the hit and rebound down.
#2 If your man doesn't go step at him and rebound down

HELPSIDE VS. THE LOB
#1 Come low and outside of lane -- thru you
#2 Deflection only if you know you can get it
