3 BALLS, 3 CUTTERS, 3 SHOTS

This is one of our favorite shooting drills and one that we got from Jim Boone at Tusculum College. The basic drill is set up with a two-guard front and a low post. We use two coaches as feeders and three basketballs. The drill starts with a guard-to-guard pass and the low post coming up to elbow screen for the passer. The post then rolls back to the basket and takes a feed from a coach (Diagram #1). The cutter then takes a pass from the other guard and shoots off the flare cut (Diagram #2) while the passer then v-cuts to set up a jumper off a pass from the other coach (Diagram #3). We want our players going game speed -- properly setting up their cuts. We want the post to call out the name of the player she is screening for and sprint to screen. We want shooters "showing their hands to the ball." We usually go 2:00 each side. Sometimes we like to close practice with this drill and when we reverse sides we will close with "3 in a row" which means we go until we get a group to know down all 3 shots.
